Precision farming
Chemical precision
The aim of this service is to map the geographical spread of the plant nutrition status on the
various fields. NWK takes soil samples in the field and these are analysed at an accredited
laboratory. A report with recommendations accompanies the printouts of a set of chemical
maps for each individual field as a final product. Areas where chemical corrections have to be
made are marked in the field. This service is offered with a choice of a one or two-hectare grid
pattern.
Soil mapping
The fieldwork is carried out with the aid of a mechanical rear digger by noting observations
regarding soil type, soil depth, texture and other morphological properties in a grid pattern.
Farming planning is carried out in collaboration with the client and the soil map and a
comprehensive report in which the properties of each soil body are interpreted and assessed
for soil usage are offered as the final product. Prescription charts for agricultural implements
are written with the soil map as basis.
Mechanical precision
• Combine harvesters are equipped with flow monitors to indicate the grain
yield in the field geographically.
• Tractors are equipped with an automatic steering mechanism to facilitate
track traffic year after year.
• Lime spreaders are equipped to vary the application of fertiliser on the field.
The agricultural business serves mechanisation clients effectively by way of
two mega workshops in North West and two in Mpumalanga.
