Oilseed crusher
Epko Oil Refinery Proprietary Limited, a subsidiary of NWK in partnership
with global agricultural business leader Louis Dreyfus Commodities, extracts
vegetable oils at a sunflower seed crushing plant located in Lichtenburg. The
by-products removed from the oil are known as soap stock and free fatty acids
(FFA) and are used in animal feed or in the manufacturing of biodiesel, paint,
soap and window putty.
Poultry farming
Opti Chicks Proprietary Limited operates poultry-farming activities on its farm
in the Lichtenburg district and a hatchery with a view to supplying day-old
chicks to the broiler industry. Opti Chicks is one of the few non-integrated
suppliers of day-old broilers in South Africa and therefore does not compete
with its clients in the market.
Transport business
NWK Logistics is a diversified transport business that transports various
commodities on a daily basis, including the following:
• Grain products (in bulk and/or in bags: farm and silo loading)
• Implements
• Animal feed products (in bulk and in bags)
• Edible oil products
• Chicken eggs and day-old broilers
• Raw materials for NWK Liquid Fertiliser from suppliers to the plant
in Lichtenburg
• Liquid fertiliser from the plant to clients’ farms
The truck fleet grows every year and the unique variety of delivery
equipment enables us to supply a divergent range of clients. External
transport contractors are used to keep up with the overflow of transport
work. NWK Logistics serves various routes in North West, Gauteng,
Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal. Transport to
Botswana is also undertaken.
